- Performs qualitative analysis to ensure the accuracy, internal consistency of data, inclusion and completeness of pertinent reports and data, and arrangement of record contents is in accordance with prescribed regulations.
- Ensures inclusion and completeness of dictated and handwritten medical reports and other medical documentation such as physician's orders, progress notes, operative reports, and nursing documentation.
- Analyzes medical data to determine if terminology used is consistent with acceptable nomenclature and all complications are listed appropriately
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert for department chiefs, health care providers, and coding staff to obtain information or clarification on accurate and ethical documentation standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes us of medical terminology to perform medical records coding and assigning ICD 9/10 codes.
Licensure/Certification: A coding certification is required within one year from appointment according to Army Regulation 40-66, Section III Recording Diagnoses and Procedures, 3-8. Nomenclature used in recording diagnoses . For recording diagnoses and procedures, MTFs will hire only credentialed coding staff (that is, registered health information administrators, registered health information technicians, certified coding specialists, certified coding associates, certified coding specialists-professional, certified professional coders, or certified professional coders hospital 18 AR 40-66 17 June 2008/RAR 18 March 2009.
