About This Role:

The Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance invites applications for a full-time, nine month term instructor appointment in flute to begin August 2018.

Primary responsibilities are to teach applied undergraduate and graduate flute students, direct the Flute Ensemble, and teach the flute portion of a woodwind techniques course. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

Successful candidate must:

  1. have Masters’ degree in music,
  2. be experienced flute performer,
  3. be experienced studio instructor,
  4. be excellent colleague, and
  5. have experience teaching flute tech courses.

The School has 49 full-time and 7 part-time faculty members, is supported by an Associate Director for each of the three areas of Music, Theatre, and Dance, a full-time academic advisor, and by four full-time administrative staff members.

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is accredited by NASM and NAST and is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the “intellectual and academic core of the University” with 23 academic units. A land-grant institution, Kansas State University is a Carnegie “very high research” and “engaged” university with more than 4,000 students who participate in curricular and co-curricular activities offered through the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

Manhattan, Kansas, where Kansas State is located, is in the rolling Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas, 125 miles west of Kansas City via Interstate 70. Five miles north of the city is Tuttle Creek Reservoir, one of the largest in the Midwest.   • A doctorate degree in music
